As part of our science topic of sound we spent a bit of time learning about why animals have different ears! First of all we sorted and grouped animals according to different criteria, we looked at size, shape and position of ears as well as considering the habitat of the animal, whether they are prey or predators and whether they are nocturnal. We discovered through our discussion that actually animals ears depend on all of the criteria. Animals who are predators tend to have ears facing forward on the top and front of their heads, animals who are prey often have large ears that are on the sides and top of their heads so they can hear the predators coming from far away! Vey interesting stuff!
